I'm queer and my family doesn't accept it - where can I find support?
It is a very stressful situation when your family does not accept you, and it is an important and courageous step to seek support. You are not alone in this. There are many specialized services in Germany that will understand, advise and support you anonymously.
How can I get on better with my parents?
If you want to get on better with your parents, it often helps to change the way you talk. Try to stay calm and talk about your own feelings instead of reproaching them. If you tell them how you feel, your parents will feel less attacked and are more likely to listen to you.
At the same time, it's important to listen to them and understand why they might be worried or why they have certain rules. If you show an interest in their everyday life or take on small tasks around the house, you show them that you are responsible. This builds trust and creates a more relaxed atmosphere in which you can talk about difficult topics such as boundaries and space.

What can I do when I need time for myself?
If you need time for yourself, the most important thing is to unplug for a moment: Give yourself a cell phone break, switch off the device and find a place where you don't have to do anything. A great place to retreat to is the public library, where you can read in peace, play games or simply relax without anyone stressing you out. Children's and youth clubs (KJTs) are also perfect for this because they are a safe place where you can feel safe and organize your free time exactly how you want - whether you want to be active or just be by yourself. It's about saying "no" to others from time to time to clear your head with fresh air, music or creativity.
My parents kicked me out
Have you just been kicked out of your home? Do you need help immediately? Please call the police on 110. The police officers know the next steps and how they can help you in your situation. During the day, you can also get in touch with contact persons at school or staff at a children's and youth center, for example.

We advise, accompany and support you on your way to an independent lifestyle.
My parents are separating
It is certainly not easy for you when your parents separate. Perhaps there were often arguments beforehand or you felt helpless and torn. Like you, many other young people feel the same way when their parents split up. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone about it or to exchange ideas. You can get information and help here. We will listen to you. We take you seriously. Anonymous and confidential counseling is possible!
Who can help me get maintenance?
You can get free support from the Youth Welfare Office until you are 21 years old. The assistance team will then advise and support you in asserting your claims. In addition to the Youth Welfare Office, you can of course also seek the help of a lawyer. If you are already 21 years old, this is your only option. You can obtain a so-called counseling certificate from the local court for a consultation with a lawyer, in which case the costs of the consultation may be covered.
You can also get advice from the assistance office of the city of Salzgitter.

How long am I entitled to maintenance from my parents?
You are entitled to maintenance as long as you are trying to complete an apprenticeship (e.g. still attending school, doing an apprenticeship or studying). You are then entitled to maintenance until you complete your first apprenticeship or possibly even for the duration of any subsequent studies. However, you are only entitled to maintenance as an adult if you have no or only a small entitlement to vocational training assistance (BAföG). It is best to apply for BaföG at the responsible office. You are also welcome to contact us at the same time if you are unsure.

What is a title?
A maintenance certificate or a maintenance assessment order is also legally referred to as a title. The debtor undertakes to pay you maintenance in an enforceable document. This was usually recorded before you reached the age of majority and is generally valid beyond this age.
If no maintenance is paid to you despite the deed, you can use this title to enforce your claims, e.g. by garnishing your salary. If you have any questions about your title or how to enforce it, please contact us.
