What does the advice for professionals include?
People and professionals who work with children and young people are sometimes confronted with significant indications in the course of their work that suggest a possible risk to the mental, physical and emotional well-being of these children and young people.
All persons and professionals who are in professional contact with children and young people, including those subject to professional secrecy, are entitled to advice from an "insoweit erfahrene Fachkraft" (specialist advice) in order to be able to assess the risk of danger to the children and young people in their care and to be able to act with greater certainty.
The "insoweit erfahrene Fachkraft" does not carry out any specific case work, but rather offers supportive advice for professionals. The professional responsibility remains with the specialist/institution responsible for the case throughout the entire consultation process.
Specialist advice on risk assessment for professionals is an anonymized / pseudonymized advisory process and can take the form of a one-off consultation or specialist support over a longer period of time.
The starting point is always the perception of (significant) indications
of a possible risk to the child's welfare by a professional.
The counseling process is not limited to the collection and evaluation of information by a professional, but is also an accompanying consultation in which ideas for help and interventions for the benefit of children and young people are jointly considered and weighed up.
This could include, for example
- advising and supporting local professionals in assessing the risk of danger, taking into account the risk factors and the family's resources.
- Providing information about early help services and/or educational support in accordance with Section 27 ff SGB VIII.
- Advising professionals with regard to conducting parent-teacher conferences in the context of child endangerment.
- Advice on referring a case to the General Social Service in the event of an unavoidable risk to the child's welfare.
