Current:
18 members of parliament meet regularly in the council chamber in the town hall. "These meetings are open to the public, so you can attend them at any time if you are interested in a particular topic. We then deal with the city's current issues or work on our own projects."
In the last sixth session, these included, for example, the participatory campaigns surrounding the "Salzgittersee skate park", the pump track facility in Gebhardshagen and leisure opportunities for children and young people in the city.
In addition, those involved in the previous youth parliaments took part in the working group for the development of Salzgittersee, organized a sponsored run or took part in the Summer Break party.
The young people in the youth parliament pass resolutions, express wishes and take initiatives, which are then discussed in the city's political bodies such as the council.
"We can convey our interests to the city's decision-making bodies and actively shape them. We are asked for our opinion. Our voice is important and is heard."
Since 2014, the youth parliament has represented the interests of young people and enriched the activities of the city of Salzgitter for children and young people.
