What does the Youth Parliament do and how can I get involved?
The youth parliament of the city of Salzgitter represents the interests of young people in Salzgitter. Elected representatives can make recommendations on political decisions, can work on issues that affect them and, as a youth parliament, can introduce issues into local politics themselves. Furthermore, the spokesperson has an advisory seat on the youth welfare committee and can represent the voice of young people there. In 8 to 12 meetings per year, the youth parliament meets in public and votes on motions, proposals and ideas. In the meantime, internal meetings are held to hold conferences, plan projects or exchange ideas. The youth parliament also stays in contact with the young people they represent or involves them. The youth parliament also organizes its own public relations work. In its activities, the youth parliament receives support from the administration.
How you can get involved:
The youth parliament has a total of 28 places available. 25 places for 14 to 20-year-olds and 3 places for 12 to 13-year-olds.
To become a member of the youth parliament, you can apply as a candidate for the youth parliament election every two years. The requirements are that you are between 12 and 20 years old, live in Salzgitter and obtain 10 supporting signatures from young people who are also between 12 and 20 years old. If there are vacancies in the youth parliament during the election period, you also have the opportunity to apply for one of these seats at any time. In this case, the Youth Parliament itself decides on the admission of new members.
