What do my feelings mean?
Are you constantly irritable or aggressive, or are you in a state of emotional ups and downs? Have you fallen in love with the same sex? Or maybe you're in the "wrong" body? Let's look at your inner chaos together and see what it means.
Anorexia, drug use, contraception, money problems...
In youth counseling, we look together to see where you can get the best help for your concerns. There are a number of experts who are particularly knowledgeable about certain topics and have a lot of experience to help you.
Do you have problems with alcohol and drugs and don't know who can help you?
You can contact the AWO Salto Addiction Help Center with your questions and concerns. Here you can get advice on all topics relating to addiction. Counseling is free of charge and your issues will be treated confidentially. The staff at AWO Salto Suchthilfe will work with you to find out what help might be suitable for you and support you with the next steps.
Where can I get information on contraception?
Everyone has the right to shape their own life, including with regard to family planning and the question of whether children are desired and if so, when. At pro familia, you have the opportunity to find out about different methods of contraception (e.g. the pill, condom, IUD, diaphragm or hormone-free methods) and to find the method that suits you best. The consultations are free of charge.
What does confidentiality mean?
Certain people, for example doctors and employees of counseling centers, have a duty of confidentiality. This means that they are not allowed to pass on what you tell them without your permission - not even to your parents! There are only a few exceptions, but you will be informed of these in advance.

Media addiction and how I can recognize it
There is not only addiction to stimulants (alcohol, nicotine, etc.), but also addiction to social networks, games and other media content such as online casinos. Here are a few signs to help you recognize whether you may already be addicted:
- Uncontrolled media consumption over time, often for hours on end
- Your usage times are getting longer and longer
- You almost only think about your time on digital media
Trying to use less media is more difficult than you thought - Neglecting (extracurricular) obligations and social contacts
- Withdrawal symptoms when not using, e.g. anger, irritability, despair, depression
- Physical side effects such as headaches and back pain, lack of sleep, etc.
- Concealment or trivialization of the usage behavior and possible secondary problems
Observe yourself and get help by talking to people you trust. AWO Salto Suchthilfe in Salzgitter also offers consultation hours on the subject of media addiction.

My boyfriend/girlfriend wants to kill himself/herself, what should I do?
If he or she is attempting suicide, call the emergency number 112 immediately.
If he or she expresses suicidal thoughts:
Take them seriously. He or she has reached a point in life where he or she no longer knows what to do. Make it clear to him or her that you cannot keep this to yourself. Think together about who she or he would like to confide in. Sometimes this is easier with unknown people, for example a doctor or a counseling center. Accompany him or her there or turn to other helpful adults. There is always a solution - you can even call the emergency number 112.
My boyfriend/girlfriend is hurting himself/herself, what should I do?
Does someone in your circle of friends need help, for example someone who just listens? Good that you are there. Offer your friend to come to our counseling center. We will also listen and try to find out together what is behind the need to self-harm. You can also come to us for support.
